Since 29th of December I'm back in Amsterdam! But I'm not back home... My home is wherever I am and most of all there where my bike is and brings me... I really enjoy the nomad life and leaving things into the open, to live free. But this doesn't mean that I'm not connected to people and places... Amsterdam and other parts of the Netherlands are really special to me. Mostly because of the people, my friends!, that live here. I really missed them the last months and it is amazing to be back and see and hear how they are doing and celebrate the new year together.
I traveled via Pedra Vedra to the Netherlands to visit Leo and Joke, friends who live in Portugal for 4 years now and who are realizing their dreams and ideals: creating an "ecovillage" or community where they can live more sustainable and work together with others (in the organic garden and other projects). Their plans are still evolving, their local network is growing, but it seems hard to find a suitable and affordable place to start the whole project. During the two days that we spend together we talked about the plans, made a nice walk in the area and saw possible places where future plans can develop.
The bus journey to Amsterdam was loooooong (37 hours), but it was nice to have much time to think. I felt sad to leave Joao and Portugal, for sure I will go back soon as it already started feeling like a "home" and I really would like to learn Portuguese and get more involved in some projects in Porto among which the social center Casa Viva: a house where people can organize concerts, meetings, teatre performances, cinema, diners, prepare for actions and there is a 'pirate' radio, hacklab and ciclo officina. A free space where new ways of thinking can sprout and people can meet.
Since I'm "back" I'm mainly visiting friends, spending time with house mates, sprouting, cooking, baking bread and I'm painting the guest room, where I will stay the next month(s). I will also work again a bit here and there, mainly in after school care (my 'old' job) which is most of the time having fun with kids!
