Chang Mai on first reflexion was bigger and more touristy than I expected. The lonely planet paints a picture of the culture center of Thailand, its not really...but took it for what it is.
One good thing is that its Thai new year here, my third new year of the trip and I get another in Laos...so happy new year for 2550!!!
My first day I met Chris and went up to the elephant temple up the hill for views over the city and then just wondered around and took it easy
Second day was jammed packed...an elephant trek, hill trek, white water rafting and bamboo rafting. I loved the elephant trek, alot better and less touristy than I expected...only 8 of use..those cheeky little buggers stop everywhere..eat, piss and prod you with there trunk.
All together a good day that got messy at night..we met two English boys James and Duncan (who works in Bangkok and speaks perfect Thai)...we therefore went to local Thai clubs...a refreshing change away from go go bars and back packer bars. Much whiskey drunk and stinking hangover.
I spent the last day wondering around the city and did get to see the ceremony when the young Thai boys dress a bit like girls, parade on there dads shoulders before becoming monks....the temples here are OK, but everything since Bagan is a disappointment...I must give it some time before I see Angkor so I am not disappointed
