Today I completed my greatest achievement of my trip so far, climbing Mount Kinabalu...the highest mountain in SE Asia at a whopping 4101m high.

I started of the first day meeting my guide (Jomus), with not so early start of 8am....buy the time we got to the foot of the walk we were about 1000m high and started the climb around midday.

For the next three hours we trek up over 2000m along a 6km track, which was bloody hard work. Considering I was still drained from Chinese New Year in KL, I got up surprisingly quickly although It was hard graft in first humid rain forest and then freezing rain storms.

Either way I was grateful for a rest in the hostel and was in bed at 4pm in the afternoon.

The next morning I woke at 2am and started climbing at 3am. My teeth felt like dropping out due to the altitude and numerous energy drinks, filled with sugar.

This time the climb was tougher along granite drops and ropes to clamber up the side of the mountain. Two hours later, another 2.7Km completed I reached Lows Point, the highest point of the mountain.

For the next hour those who had made it were given a spectacular sunrise, lighting up the surrounding peaks, leaving a shadow over the sea of the mountain and a bright red horizon. Only now I could I really grasp the achievement of climbing so high as the view below showed a blanket of white cloud above the Borneo rain forest.

I spent an hour basking in my glory, before descending down back to the hostel for breakfast.

Another 2 hours later we were at the bottom and later I celebrated with a well earned pizza.
