Ive just arrived in Antigua so I can finally update my travelblog as the internet in Lago Atitlan was a bit slow, still amazing though you can email from the middle of nowhere in central america.

We travelled from San Cristobel to Lago Atitlan in Guatemala as a group of 12. We all meet in Magic hostel in San Cristobel. I travelled with Dan, Claire, Gabby, Olivia, Annie, Claire, Lou Lou, Rob, Alan and Chasidy. We hired a private van between us which was fine for the journey.

At the border I had a little problem as I had lost my tourist visa for Mexico, which I didnt know until i got to the border. The border guard waved us past, but I think I may have problems re-entering the country, so I have emailed the embassey, lets see what happens....

We arrived in Panjachel on the north coast of Lago Atitlan after a 14 hour journey. The lake is a sunken volcano cone, in fact there are many domant vocanos surronding the lakes which gives breathless views. At the dock we got a 45 mins boat trip over to san pedro as we had heard that this was a much nicer place to stay.

I was a little difficult to find beds for 12 but Dan went on a mission and found trippys hostel down a back alley which turned out to be a really good find. That night we found a great food joint called Budhas and breakfast the following morning at munchies. Are you getting the theme of the town yet??????

The first day I didnt really do much, it was a great relaxation day after night bus journeys and long days climbing temples. I did managed to get lost three times, as the town is full of tiny back streets and did get to talk to lou on a phone I found for international calls.

That night after chilling on the hammocks for a while and watching the perched vultures in the trees above (very weird site), we went to budhas again and ended up drinking to 4 in the morning.

The second day was a lot more energetic. After a lie in we rented canoes are set sail for san marco, a nearby village. We actually ended up landing on someones private house and jetty. After a quick dip we ventured around to a beech and found somewhere to eat chips.

The ride back was a bit more hectic. Fat boys Dan and i helped the girls from the beech but had trouble ourselves leaving the bay, hence we took on a bit of water in the canoe. This got worst in the choppy water. Half way across the lake we started to get worried and called over the girls for help as the canoe was quickly filling up with water every stroke along the way. Olivia thankfully had a towel which we used to empty the canoe. Panic over we got back to san pedros. That night we had dinner in massive group of 20, its was Rob made up birthday to get us free cake, a great move.

Today we left san pedro first on boat to panjachel and then onto Antigua. Felcity is really sick again so we are going to the hospital tomorrow as she has been ill for over two weeks now.

Lago Atitlan was stunning as we left, a misty rain had started and clouds desended on top of the volcanos. As the coach driver climbed the road we left Lago Atitlan somewhere below in the clouds.
