April 23, 2010

It was hard to wake up. Last night was tiring and long. Not enough sleep because TV and card playing was interfering was messing up our sleep time.

Breakfast was cup of noodles with waffles and donuts and miso Soup all mixed together in one big bowl with three straws.

We picked up our lunches from Jasper's restaurant. It was the same place as where we had dinner last night. They served us all the leftovers we didn’t eat at dinner … yummy.

The rangers met us at Sand Beach. Their names were Donna, Kate, and Mike. They took us on a 2 hour hike, not like the hike yesterday, but much easier. They were showing us the types of rocks and formation, formation of the mountains, the glaciers, and lots about the trees and animals. Holes in the trees were from woodpeckers and some animals. We saw a beaver dam and house but not beavers were there although we saw tree that were freshly cut down by beavers.

We saw a turkey vulture flying. Some of us thought it was a hawk but Ranger Kate explained hawks have a straight wing span when flying while vultures have a v-shaped wing span when flying. Also vulture bald heads – no feather because they are always sticking their beaks in dead animals and blood and guts will stick to feathers (and get stinky) if they had them on their heads.

Cont’d ….
