Mexico Journal 07-26-10

Well, I didn't get up until 8:30 this morning. I wanted to be up by 7 in order to get some work done, but I just couldn’t pull myself out of bed. Oh well. When I got up, I had a stomach ache. I’m not sure what’s wrong, but I don’t feel very good. The bad stomach feeling comes and goes, so we’ll see what happens. I’m hoping it is just a normal, short, upset stomach, but I’ll let you know as time goes on. When I got up, I decided to email my parents, check facebook, upload pictures, and catch up on my journal from yesterday. I did all of that and now I’m just relaxing in my bed. Holly just got up and I think I am going to head out into the kitchen to have breakfast if it is ready. Then, I’ll work on some homework. It looks pretty nice outside today, so that is exciting. After a weekend of rain, I could use a little sunshine.

As a side note, I had a nightmare last night. It is the first one I can remember here. I dreamed that Jon and I were at a dance competition with Annmarie and Jason and that we were competing in the Classic Division! As we were sitting there to prepare to compete, I realized that Jon and I hadn’t danced our routine at all since I got back from my trip. Annmarie took us into another room to run through our routine one time (the competition started in five minutes), but as we tried to run through it, we couldn’t remember the moves! At the part where we are front to back and do the leg snap move, we couldn’t get together! It was a disaster. I know that it won’t happen in real life, but it was not a good dream. At least I got to dream about my dance family, though, I guess. Hopefully next time, though, it’ll be that we’re winning some sort of competition instead! Well, I think I’m going to head out and have breakfast this morning and then get to work on some homework.

I basically just worked on homework for the rest of the morning. I made some note cards to study for music, and downloaded some songs so Holly and I can quiz ourselves. We walked to school in the rain, which wasn’t very pleasant. It was fine, but I wish it would stop raining. Our music class was normal today. We talked about three new groups and decided on our presentation groups. I decided to be with Rose and Ashley again, but Holly decided to change groups. Kelli joined our group instead. I’m okay with that because she did well on the first presentation and seemed really prepared. I hope it works out well. We have plans to meet tomorrow at 11:30 at the ISA office. Holly and I walked home after class and had lunch. We had vegetable soup, baked chicken and Spanish rice. It was yummy. I made tacos with corn tortillas, the chicken, rice, and green salsa. Then I worked on downloading some more songs from the artists we are studying about. I hope I’ll have some time to finish making the note cards for studying purposes tonight, but we’ll see how that goes. I’m supposed to teach the guys to dance after the salsa classes, so we’ll see.

Holly and I spent a little time working on our computers before we went to business class. She was writing an email until around 4:45, and our class starts at 5:00, so we decided to split a taxi instead of walking to class. However, it was raining and all the taxis were full! We finally found one. This guy had two other women in the taxi, but he was just dropping them off at their house (it was his Mom and sister). He dropped them off after we got in and then he took us to school. He dropped us off right in front of our school door. It was nice not to have to walk for a change. We ended up being about 5 minutes late anyway, but one of the other students was late, too, so it wasn’t a problem. We watched the rest of Un impulsivo y loco amor (Fool’s Rush In). It is a really good movie about love and the clash between Mexican and American culture. I really liked it. We discussed the movie after that and then talked about being a leader and about administration. The things we are learning in this class are the same things that I learned in my management and marketing classes, which is cool. It’s just in Spanish!

After class, Traci and I went to dance class. The first class was a really tricky salsa pattern. I got caught up in a few minutes, though, and learned to follow it by the end of the class. The second class was Bachata, which was super fun. I like Bachata a lot, honestly. There was a part in the dance, though, that the girl is kind of supposed to sit on the guy’s leg and do a dip thing. When we had to do that, I was paired up with this skinny little 12 year old that probably weighed like 80 pounds. Hahaha. He was supposed to dip me and I was supposed to sit on him. Needless to say, that didn’t work out too well. The third class was the group dance that we do. I have no idea what it is called, actually, but it is kind of like the circle dance we did with WCS where you constantly switch partners with commands for what moves are next. It’s really neat. I was supposed to try to teach some of the guys how to WCS tonight, but when I asked Jose about it, he said he had to teach. I was a little disappointed about that, because I want them to learn, but I guess if they don’t want to, I can’t make them…so…I think I’m going to give up on that idea until they ask me again. I don’t want to bother them with it.

I ended up getting home at around 10:30 in a taxi. I made two quesadillas and had two wonderful glasses of milk. Then I took a shower and now I’m laying in my bed, totally exhausted, writing in my journal. Tomorrow I have a lot of work to do. I should do some of it tonight, but I’m not sure I’m going to be able to stay awake to do much. Dancing really tired me out today. My body hurts in pretty much every place and I just feel like I want to go to bed.
