A little on Abu Dhabi - is the capital of the emirate of the same name, largest of the seven emirates of the United Arab Emirates. It is said to be the richest city in the world and is located in the north central UAE. The city lies on a T-shaped island jutting into the Persian Gulf from the central western coast. At the head of Abu Dhabi and across from the Corniche is Lulu Island - a semi-natural landmass that is arguably the most strategic and valuable piece of property in the Emirate.

A little on My First Day - Being so exhausted, I didn't wake up till later in the morning.  My Dad had his last working day of the week today, Thursday, since tomorrow is the Islamic Holy Day.  My step mom and I sat on the couch and chatted about the history of Abu Dhabi, the Sheikh and what were the options of the day.  We decided to go to the mall to eat and start looking at some of the clothes when my Dad got home.

The mall, even though it was a smaller mall, was huge!  Folks smoke inside the mall, but it seems to evaporate in the air quickly.  Not too bothersome.  All three of us are coffee drinkers, so we headed to a Starbucks and sat and talked while watching passer-byers.  I just love the rich culture here.  Believe me, I'm aware that it's a Muslim state, but everyone seems to be very nice and endearing here, not to mention handsome (smile).  I asked my Dad if he had arranged a marriage for me yet (joking), but he said the men over here have multiple wives.  Don't think I could handle that one.  I mean, I KNOW I couldn't handle that.  Ha-ha!

We went to a few stores, but one in particular caught our eye.  Once inside, we were treated like royalty.  The sales person must have brought me up to 10 outfits trying me to buy something.  It was an upscale shop, so I can't say that I minded that too much.  I found a shirt that I may go back and buy, but for now we bought my nieces and nephew a traditional Arabic outfit.  They are so dang cute!

It was dark by the time we came out of the mall, so we just drove around the city looking at the buildings and their lights.  Very beautiful city.  Headed home, watched a little bit of a movie and then checked in for the night on the rather early side.  I was exhausted and I don't think acclimated to the time yet.  Tomorrow should be a pretty busy day...

Before I close, my Dad and step mom has been burning what's called Bakhoor throughout the day.  Somewhat similar to incense, but it's not.  Instead of burning the actual stick, you burn the coal underneath and it in turns burns a lump of parfume.  It's kept the house smelling mighty beautiful.  I'm going to look for one before I leave.
