This week I spare all my readers the boredom of reading my rants and raves about public transport, people who can't walk in straight lines, annoying people who eat loudly and make noise when their man-bangles scrape across their desk at work.  Nope.  Nothing could possibly eclipse what happened this week and what I am about to officially announce.

HE PROPOSED!!  AND SHE SAID YES!

Yep, you heard it here first, Heidi and Phil are engaged!

We'd decided to have a quiet weekend on account of having a short supply of cash, and so I was instantly alerted when Phil asked if I could get off work early on Friday.  He said he'd changed his mind about not going out on the weekend, and so I knew what was coming, having previously discussed getting married.  As it was I couldn't get out of work early so Phil met me after work and had brought a change of clothes for me.  I didn't know where we were going because he'd told me it was a surprise, so I'd asked him to bring me a black dress - that was sure to be appropriate for wherever we were going.  I was glad I'd asked for that dress, because on the approach to Hotel du Vin, he stopped me and said that that was where we were headed, but said that before we go in he had another surprise!  I was instantly overcome with nerves, despite already figuring out what was about to happen.  And then he pulled the ring out, in the middle of the street as people were walking by to get home from their busy week of work, and said "Heidi Kay, will you marry me?"  I was so shocked, and the tears that I'm no stranger to started streaming over my freshly applied makeup and down to my chinny chin chin.  Phil had to prompt me to say yes, freaking out because it hadn't exploded out of my mouth the instant he finished speaking.  So I finally said yes (as if it was ever going to be a no!) and tried valiantly to get rid of the tears in my eyes so I could get a good look at the ring that was going to adorn my finger for the rest of my life!

And it is beautiful.  Just what I always wanted - nothing flashy, nothing massive that's going to get caught in the tea towel when I'm trying to get the roast out of the oven causing it to tumble to the floor and ruin a perfectly good meal.  It's simple but classy, just like me hahaha!

So we went off to the hotel (after a quick stop at H&M so I could grab a little singlet to go under my dress), I got changed and we were showed to our table.  We had a lovely meal, candlelit (oooooh loverrrrs!) and then got thinking about what we would do afterwards.  Phil was working overtime in the morning for a few hours, and so we agreed that we'd go home and drink the bottle of sparkling that I'd had in the fridge since my birthday, and then call family and friends.  When we got home my stomach was doing somersaults after being churned and full of butterflies all afternoon, so I had to make a trip to the bathroom before we popped open the Jacobs Creek (too much information?).  But when I opened the fridge, my eyes were drawn to the bottle of Veuve that was resting in the door, and I was excited that Phil had remembered a conversation we'd had a few months earlier.  In that conversation I suggested that if we were ever to become engaged, I'd want a bottle of Veuve to celebrate.  I said to Phil "awww you remembered!" to which all he could say was "well, it was my prefer..." before I cut him off and firmly said "no, you remembered!" and burst out laughing!  Whether he'd remembered or not, it was perfect because it was just what I always imagined.

So who would've thought hey!  A little over 12 months since I arrived in England I'm happier than ever, and looking towards a future shared with Philo, who is so much more than I ever dreamed I'd find.

And to think I scoffed before I left Australia when everyone said that I'd meet the man of my dreams over here!

I stand corrected!
