Got to Langkawi just after lunch. Caught a taxi out to Pantai Cenang beach and after wandering for a bit eventually found somewhere to stay. I got talking to the owners who introduced me to Graham from Australia. He offered to take me for a short ride on his bike just to show me the area. I have never, ever, ever, ever in my whole entire life been so utterly terrified. He drove incredibly fast, overtaking and undertaking cars, lorries and buses for 3 hours. I've never been so glad to get off a bike before in my life. I spent the rest of the day sitting on a white sandy beach and swimming in the beautiful crystal clear water. The following day was spent sitting on the beach and swimming. On my third day I decided to do something constructive and caught a boat to a nearby island where I went for a swim in the Lake of the pregnant maiden. Childless women are said to conceive after swimming in the lake....
We also saw lots of eagles, which is how Langkawi got it's name. It translates as Red Eagle. After feeding the eagles we went to another beautiful beach.
The following day I tried to hire a car but there were none available so guess what, yip, another day on the beach. That evening I went to a local pub to watch the rugby - Scotland v Wales. They didn't get off to a good start. After a while I was joined by 4 lovely gentlemen who kindly bought me some beer and kept me well entertained, so I didn't mind so much when Scotland lost.
The following day, after being unable to get a car again I decided it was maybe time to leave Langkawi, there's only so much sitting on a beach a girl can do. I was told there was a ferry at 11.30am. Got there at 11.00 only to find out the next ferry wasn't until 2.30pm. Having my rucksack with me I was a bit stuck for doing anything and ended up just sitting in the ferry port for 3 1/2 hours. Got back to Penang and booked my bus to head to Kota Bharu the following day.
