We had read about the famous monastery at Montserrat, perched high on a mountainside around 50 km out of Barcelona, so we decided to head that way on our way north towards France.   We drove away from Sitges and towards the interior of Spain.

The mountain range was quite unusual made up of bulbous peaks jutting out of the Spanish countryside.  It looked a bit like the canyon country in the United States.  The monastery was built into the hillside – a fantastic setting with amazing views over the surrounding countryside.  It was about 10 kms up on a steep winding road but it was well worth the effort – very peaceful and quiet at the top.

At the monastery there were several funicular railways going up and down the mountainside.   We decided to take the steepest one going up enjoying the ride up and more views and walks at the top!

Luckily we were also on time to see the famous Monserrat boys choir perform at 1pm in the basilica. This was very moving and well worth the effort of getting there at the right time.  There were people there from all over the world.

After lunch at the top we headed on our way to the foothills of the Pyrenees and stayed the night at a camping area just south of Andorra.

Also inclused on this entry are some exclusive photos of the inside of our camper!

dear molly, kate, auntie sarah and uncle mark,
thankyou for the photos of the inside of the camper.
It's very snazzy!! Where are all the soft toys? It looks very tidy!! My other question is...how do the ferniculars work? Do they use cables? How fast did the ship go? (in knots please)
