Chile chose to meet us with its dark side. As soon as we entered Santiago bus station, tired and groggy after a 20 hour journey, sad to leave some great people behind, I got my rucksack robbed. It was a mystery how it happened, it was simply there one minute and the next it was gone. We couldn't find anyone who spoke English or who in fact was slightly interested to help. However from similar experiences I know that in these parts of the world it is pointless to turn to the police, its a waste of time and there is nothing they can do anyway. All my important items were thankfully in my smaller bag however, documents and bank cards, electronics. Wheeeewww!
So the day that we spent in Santiago, a city amidst the Andes, was spent in a shocked and low mood. Writing this here now, back in the same bus station, (after some much nicer times in Valparaiso which will be the next blog), waiting for transport to Mendoza, beside us is a girl crying because her luggage has also just been robbed. The "security" is shouting at her, there will be no help for her either.
Another long journey ahead, 30 hours on the minivan, as the normal crossing point across the Andes has for some meteorological reason been closed, we cannot wait to get out of this city, the only one where the people have not been friendly and where we simply had a lot of bad luck.
Otherwise we are very well, still enjoying the trip and simply taking the bad with the good...

Life doesn't stop when one travels, the opposite- it heightens...
