Just a few more words about Sao Paolo.
In the end it was an utterly enjoyable city. Even though it's ridiculously huge, one does not really feel that. We were staying in a little part of it called Vila Madalena, in a lovely hostel Giramondo with a super friendly owner, all the amenities were right next to it, including a street with lively nightlife.
But most of all we enjoyed Sao Paolo thanks to our fantastic hosts Renata and Jose! Saturday night they took us to see a samba school. As we will not be here for the carnival in the beginning of February, seeing a samba school practice and being in the crowd watching and dancing, was the next best thing. All year round the samba schools practise for the competition that the carnival is. It is a huge business, tremendous money is spent and a good amount is up for grabs if you win. For everybody else, carnival is a love or even a passion. And its easy to understand why.
The little place we were, got completely packed out in half an hour. The drums started to roll. Something moving in the stomach- a primal rhythm, a need, an ecstacy. Nobody can stand still when the rhythm takes over. So we danced. After a few hours, dripping of sweat we still danced. What a feeling!
Back in the hostel, we were still so high from the experience, that we continued on to a nearby bar to keep on dancing. It was a dancing marathon that day, 6 hours straight. But we woke up happy and not tired at all next day, paid a quick visit to the Japanese quarter in Liberdade, where we browsed the market a bit and had a great meal with our hosts for an amazingly cheap price- a buffet style restaurant which charges by the kilo- good to know the cheap ways of eating right before heading away... :)

Thank you so much Renata and Jose, you made our stay in Sao Paolo wonderful indeed!

On to Foz do Iguacu- a complete wonder...
