I of HI:
Cheers my friends!  This is just a quick update and apology for the teaser with all the Map Pin Only entries:) just wanted to show you where we've been, and plan to fill them out with some good entries in there soon - hopefully upload some pic's when we get to Kaila's in Christchurch.
We just let Tom Petty break our hearts at the superbowl halftime show on Monday afternooner- it's amazing, we can come halfway across the world to this gorgeous fairytale land, spend the morning blackwater rafting thought an underground cave lit blue by glowworms, and spend the afternoon in Curley's sports bar watching football - feels like home!  actually you can tell who's plan that was, since i'm getting caught up on the blog while NE gets their asses handed to them. or maybe it's new york. who's playing anyways?!  i'm a rugby fan now, i can't go back!
seriously though, we woke our selves out of another night's beauty rest in the Shwagon and rolled into the Waitomo caves for some tubing (wai - water, tomo - tube). I'd heard all about it from Heather P, and seen her pictures of her in the tube, geared up in the slick black wetsuit and helmet and headlamp and the white booties! and really had no concept of what she actually did - tubing, caves, glowworms.  But this is a real CAVE, underground, in freezing water, and literally we are flowing down rapids, climbing over rocks and jumping backward off of waterfalls, did i mention the dark and the cold part? and it's hilarious.  if they hadn't warned us first thing about peeing in our wetsuits i straight would have.  We kick if off by going down into a hole, then doing the limbo float under a foot and a half rock passage.  The best part was the slow floating parts, when you actually slow down into a lazy black river, and turn off your lamps and after your eyes adjust to the dark you look up and see the way lit by ca canopy of blue glowing specs of light, like an indoor Milky Way.  It lulls us all into silence.  Then the guide in his cheeky kiwi accent tells us the truth, that these romanticised gloworms are actually Maggots, and the blue glow is coming from their big blue shitbag asses.   Then they tell us we have to keep our lights off and let the big blue shitballs light our way out to the world. Filthy! But a ridiculously amazing thing to do.   HIGH FIVE KIWI'S!
After Heath gets his footy fill, we'll point the Shagwagon westward and head to the coast, join up on the surfer's highway and make our way from New Plymouth to Wellington, and plan to catch the interislander ferry to Pitcain on the South island on Wednesday, see what those southern Kiwi's are all about.
Love,
Ings
