During the course of this American trip I went to Montana 3 times. The first time was for 6 days after Andy's wedding, the second time was before Burning Man to get ready, and the last time was after Burning Man to show Ivory the area.
Montana 1:
After Andy's wedding I flew up to Montana to hang with my buddies (Dave, Pat and Natasha). They were ready to party from the moment I got off the plane! We headed straight to the Madison river with a 30 pack and proceeded to float on down! I thought "no Montana sun could hurt me after being in the powerful Asian sun"....boy was I wrong! I got cooked! After floating the day away we headed a hour south to Big Sky Montana. It was here that I spent the rest of my 6 days! It was good to catch up with my buddies again! I also met Dave's new hunting dog. This is Dave's pride and joy and he even carries his canine pictures in his wallet. It was super interesting to help train his bird dog with pigeons and a starter pistol. I spent the rest of my time playing frisbee golf, hiking in the mountains, canoeing the Gallatian, and going to concerts in the Meadow. To top it all off, Bozeman was having a red dress run! It was hands down, one of the best hashes ever! Since Bozeman is new to hashing, I did not expect much! But they exceeded all my expectations with a great trail, more shot and beer checks than I have ever seen and an ending circle that was stocked with food! It was good old fashioned Montana fun.
Montana 2:
After flying back to Washington and picking up Ivory (she flew in from Oz) we drove to Montana. We had to come back so we could get every thing ready for Burning Man. The festival will be it's own entry but getting supplies for 6 days as well as arranging rental cars and all the other little details was no small feat. We did little else than prepare for 3 days!
Montana 3:
After getting back from Burning Man we were exhausted! We took a full day to catch up on all the sleep we had missed! I had a list of things I wanted Ivory to experience while she was in Montana and we about did them all. Number one on that list was Yellowstone National Park. I used to live there a long time ago and I was very keen to show her around! There's so much to to see in this park and I foolishly tried to do it all in two days. We hit the highlights, including Old Faithful, Canyon, Lake and Mammoth. We even soaked in the boiling river after camping outside the park. Ivory was petrified of getting eaten by a bear so I'm pretty sure she never slept.
After going full speed for two days in Yellowstone we drove straight to Bozeman to hash in the woods! This was yet another great hash by the Bozeman HHH. There were more dogs than people on the trail! Since it was opening weekend for hunting, the theme of the hash was hunter orange and something furry! We were lucky we did not get shot! One of the beer checks was at a hunters camp who could not have been more confused as to what the hell we were! We all camped that night and once again Ivory was freaked out about the bears!
The next day we hit my favorite bar in the entire world.......The Cat's Paw. Opening day of the NFL..... hundreds of HD TVs showing every single game....Guiness...2 dollars a pint....Chicken fried steak and eggs....5.95....I FUCKING LOVE THE CAT"S PAW!
We finished off our time in Montana, with some amazing hikes, hunting with Dave's dog, and spotting bears, elk, bison, marmots and moose. Ivory saw snow for the first tme and shot her first gun! Just when you think we could not fit any more things in we went camping under the Harvest moon. A crew of people found a sweet spot by the river and naked fire jumping ensued. All in all, a great trip to Montana!
