Adam's Peak is a sacred mountain, famous as a goal of pilgrimage for Buddhists, Hindus, and Muslims. On its summit is a large flat rock that bears the impression of a gigantic  human foot. This stone footprint is regarded as Buddha's by Buddhists, Shiva's by Hindus, and Adam's by Muslims, who believe this to be the site of Adam's fall from Paradise.

The best way to see this footprint is to climb up the mountain in the middle of the night and watch the sun rise over the mountains.   Most people start the climb around 2 AM but since I had no one to slow me down and I wanted to get a little more sleep I did not start until 4.

The path up is a steep 12 kilometers and I did it mostly alone. Many pilgrims spend the night on top but I opted for the early morning hike.  I don't have many photos of the way up because it was so dark but it was a good work out. (elevation gain of 1850 meters)

When I got to the top there were scores of people all positioned to catch a glimpse of the suns first rays.   As the sun started to crest the horizon, the priests came out of the temple and beat a drum and chanted to welcome the new day.  The coolest part of the sunrise is the shadow Adam's Peak cast in the distance.  If you look at the pictures you can see the shadow of Adam's Peak in the distance.  As I hiked down I followed a bunch of Buddhist pilgrims who were all chanting in unison as they were descending.  After the climb I went for a swim in the river with a puppy that was hanging around my guest house.  I would like to think I taught him to swim.....but I'm pretty sure doggy paddling comes naturally....

Since my time in Sri Lanka was almost over I wanted to check out Colombo's night life.  Nightlife does not really exists anywhere else in Sri Lanka because women are not aloud to mix at bars or clubs.  Colombo is pretty much the only place this happens.   I used couch surfing and found myself a place to stay in downtown Colombo.   I hung out with this Pakistani guy who showed me around the clubs.  He was a new guy in town too and was trying to get a business going in Sri Lanka.  I was convinced that Pakistan was my next destination until I read the news about the Taliban taking over there....  Oh well next time!

Oh yeah one last thing I did was hash one more time with the Colombo hash house harriers.  It was a good time until I told a joke about German's and pissed of the entire German Embassy! Before I told the joke the hash sang a song that goes like this..... GERMANS HAVE NO SENCE OF HUMOR, ITS THE TRUTH IT'S NOT A RUMOR!  If you can't take a joke don't come to the hash!  Ziss high!
