Utila is an Island located of the north coast of Honduras.   Itīs famous on the gringo trail as the cheapest place in the world to get scuba certified and to fun dive.   Having seen my fair share of the world I can honestly say its not.  The prices here are good but they are not the cheapest in the world by far.  The island itself  is not really that nice with no real beaches and tons of mosquitoes and  sand flies which obliterate all human skin.  The only defense against sand flies since you cant really see them is to smear you skin in baby oil.   That way they more or less drowned when they land.    I traveled here with Aussie Tim and English Sara who has been traveling with us since San Pedro.   Tim and Sara decided to get open water certified while my plan was just to do a couple of fun dives.   I got one fun dive in and 2 days of health before I got slapped with extreme, debilitating,  feverish, gut wrenching diarrhea.   I'm not talking 4 times a day, I talking 20.  It was terrible, I spent most my time here in bed feeling like death.
This island is interesting because even though it belongs to Honduras , it was settled by British slaves so the locals are African/Hispanic mix that speak pigeon English.  After taking Spanish class for 5 days I was eager to  try it out but this was the wrong place!
Close to our last day here Tim decided to enter a sexy-man contest called Mr. Utilla.   Keep in mind that Tim looks like a gay pirate with the build of a 90 pound weakling......but what he lacks in the physical department he makes up in huuchspa!  He did well and I think he might have won the audience vote but ultimately it was up to the judges.  I think he went a little to gay porno/male stipper for the judges liking and got himself 5th place.  The crowd though did love him for being so flamboyant and he won a case of beer.
We did have a nice place that was right on the water with our own dock.  It was even located next to our friends Caz and Emma who were diving next door.  You will see them in pictures, we have been running into each other ever since Belize.  Getting stuck on this island seems to be very common with backpackers so after 7 days we hit the road.
