In one day we were able to get from Bohol to this a little 2km Island (via: Jeepney, trike, ferry, taxi, bus, row boat and motorboat). The main attraction of this Island is diving with Thresher sharks. This dive site was found by guys that were laying cable from the mainland to this island. I guess while they were laying the cable they always saw thresher sharks in this same spot. So now Europeans and the random North American go there to dive with these sharks. There aren't really any backpackers anywhere we have been. It's always people on holiday and mostly fat, weird German men. My first night there I got some heinous food poisoning and spent all night puking my guts up with an insane fever that made me go a little crazy. True to the form of food poisoning, my next day was spent on the toilet. Oh what fun! Between my fun toilet episodes I was able to wander out on to the beach and saw a cock fight. Normally men attach spurs to the chicken's feet to make the fight deadly quicker. The fight I saw was without the spurs. The roosters can't really hurt each other without spurs so this was just a practice round. I was able finally to get some pictures of it.
The next day I was completely better and went on a boat trip with a bunch of girls we met. The boat took us to a little, white sand beach that was surrounded by crystal blue water. This little island is what everyone thinks of when they imagine a tropical island. Once again we played frisbee, snorkelled and collected more skin cancer. When we got back we went to a floating bar which was located in the water (of course) just right outside our little beach hut. Since the cut on my head is finally getting better we decided to give the Thresher shark dive a chance.
We got up at 5am so we could be in the water early. This is such a painful time to wake up! Anwyay we got to the site and jumped in. It was the most boring & expensive dive yet! There were no sharks but more importantly there was nothing else to look at. It was totally lame so to amuse ourselves, Dave put random coral in his mouth to look like a tongue and I wrapped seaweed around Dave's tanks. In retrospect, that probably was not a good idea because when he tried to pull it off it started to turn off his air supply and we were at 20 meters. I saw this whole thing unfold and tried to get my extra regulator ready incase his oxygen did get cut off. It all worked out and his oxygen stayed on. That was the highlight of this overpriced, shitty dive! So, somewhat disillusioned with the beach and the dive we decided to check out another island that is really known for nice white beaches. And away we went........
