Our bus to Malaysia was only 30 mins late & fairly empty so we stretched out and took some valium and slept really well. In the morning we caught 2 mini vans to the Malaysian border and met a German guy (Felix) who was going our way. We walked across the border together and hopped on a local bus to Kota Bahru. The buses in Malaysia are quite modern albeit very cold. Everyone also speaks quite good English. Malaysia starkly contrasts all the poverty and filth we'd seen in Cambodia and Thailand, but this means the prices are higher. Once we found a room we walked to the local night market and ordered the tastiest curry which was wrapped up in brown paper and served with purpley rice and prawn crackers. There were even stalls selling pastries and cakes. Delicious.
