Ko Lanta had also been hit by the Tsunami. We had to walk on a makeshift, plastic pontoon from the longtail to shore. After the 7 of us ate we found a really cheap guesthouse with bungalows on the beach. It seemed that this small beach was the only place with anyone staying on the whole Island. At night our place had firetwirling (poi) and live folk music. During the day we took a walk through the jungle to a waterfall. We didn't see too much although we knew monkeys were watching us. We just hoped we wouldn't catch any nasty micro-organisms from the water into us. A highlight of our trip was eating and drinking in a shack on the ocean with some navy guys who barely spoke any English. They shared their Chang beer and Sangsom whiskey with us and then got us some bai tom leaves which we had been curious about as they are supposed to give you energy and make you strong. We ate 2 each after taking out the middle as instructed. They tasted very bitter and didn't do too much of anything so we decided to not eat them again.
