Slept in until 9 am - good breakfast. Feeling sick so went to doctor. Walked to York Minster - biggest Gothic cathedral in England. Absolutely magnificent. Lovely stained glass. Church 500 feet in length. Took 250 years to build - finished 1470. Went to Undercroft 40p each. Shows the new foundations which cost 2 million pounds. Dug up old Norman church and Roman buildings and coffins below. Went walking though narrow cobbled streets with beautiful old buildings nearly touching in middle. Streets called Shambles, Stonegate, Petersgate, and Whip-Ma-Whoop-Ma Gate. Had lunch at old pub. Walked to Castle Museum. Saw Cliffords Tower high on hill - only remains of old castle. Hundreds of Jews imprisoned here in 1066 suicided. Museum really good and one pound each for admission. Recreated rooms of homes and whole streets - very interesting. Looked in ski shops and then came home. Raining hard so drove around and found Chandelier restaurant - ten pounds each for 4-course meal. Rang Mum at 9 pm - great to hear everybody again. Booked chalet in Scotland.
