Where I stayed
Aunty Joy & Uncle Phil
Sharrington, Norfolk - 7/3/82 - sunny
Lovely sunny morning. Went for 2 mile walk around Chester's city walls - very nice and even got quite hot. Chester has beautiful buildings - nicest city I’ve seen. Walked by canals and river where we saw kayaks riding the rapids. Walked through shopping mall. Lovely church bells ringing. Phoned Aunty Joy and drove through Nantwich and Sandbach and just outside Congleton stopped to look at Little Moreton Hall. Beautiful 3-storey black and white timbered house which is leaning and huge and surrounded by moat with water.
Drove through Chesterfield and Worksop to Lincoln. Lovely old town with magnificent huge Cathedral with 3 towers. Church empty and needs lots of restoration. Costs 125 pounds every hour for restoration. Lovely stained glass windows. Walked through narrow cobbled steep Roman streets with lovely old buildings and listened to the Cathedral bells ringing. Lovely park with daffodils and fresias. Went to Highgate Bridge which has black and white timbered house on bridge - very few left.
Arrived Norfolk - flat country - 6.30 pm. Lovely dinner and sat in cosy kitchen with wood stove. Stayed up until 12.30 am talking and had lovely time.
