Many of you I have seen recently, but for those I haven't seen in a while - my hair has gotten long, really long. I think it may be past the middle of my back, but since I can't see back there easily I'm not 100% sure. I have been "growing it out" for a while now, but never intended it to get quite this long. This is what happens when your hairdresser gets hit by a car and he isn't able to work for several months. Out of my loyalty to and concern for him (our relationship is getting close to the 10 year mark) I decided to wait until he was better and have not gone to anyone else. Unfortunately he has had several complications and before I knew it more than six months have passed since my last cut (I think I was due for one around the time of his accident).

And now I am heading on a month-long trip, to Africa no less, wondering how much shampoo and conditioner I need to take! With my hair this long conditioner is very important! Obviously I'm trying to maximize space as much as possible, so I don't want to take large bottles - but I really have no idea how much I use in a month. And I'm just not sure if I'm going to be able to run down to the corner market and get extra conditioner if I run out.

Seriously, I really haven't been obsessing about this like I'm writing - I found myself thinking about it in the shower this morning and then laughing at myself when I realized what I was thinking about - and thought you might get  kick out of it, too. If I am really going to worry about how much shampoo I should bring, this is going to be a long trip! After all - that is what part of having an adventure is about - the unplanned and unexpected . . . but still being prepared for what you can. I'll make my best guess and if I run out, who knows, maybe it will lead me to inventing the next big shampoo/conditioner fad made from Zambian tree bark & sap or something!

I wrote the above on Thursday, but didn't have a chance to post it before I left. I hoped to be mostly finished packing Thursday afternoon and would be able to report my accomplishment and have more time for other things like posting again. As you know because I posted these out of order - that did not happen. However, I was able to snap a photo of my bags before leaving the house and email it to my travelblog. It automatically attached the photo to this entry for some reason, so I will post the entry so you can see the photo of my bags. I also have a personal backpack carry-on that is not in the photo. It is my lifeline on this three day journey.
