Two weeks from today I will depart on a jet plane . . . and another . . . and another . . . and another. It will take a while to get there, but that's part of the adventure! Right now I'm busy preparing for the trip, and getting more excited with each passing day. Sometimes each passing hour!

By chance, just a few days ago, I discovered there is a 10K fun run from Livingstone to Victoria Falls the morning after I arrive. I sent a couple of emails to get additional information and am now registered to run! I couldn't pass up an opportunity to run in Africa! I found out about it because the organization with whom I will be volunteering in Zambia - Happy Africa Foundation - is doing the run as a fundraiser. What a great way to jump right in! I've heard something about costumes, so it should be fun. Check out Happy Africa's website if you have a chance http://www.happyafricafoundation.org

While in Livingstone I will be a teacher's aide at a local school in the morning and do different community projects (building, painting, playing w/orphans, coaching sports, tutoring) in the afternoon. Or maybe something all-together different! I'm preparing myself to help out with anything that needs to be done.

Part of my preparation is collecting items to take and leave in Zambia. I received a list of items when I got my trip info. My facebook friends have been very generous and I should have a nice size duffel bag full of items to take. Here is the info:

What you can bring that would help!
If you have extra space in your bag we ask that you bring some small things to help the project that we struggle to get in Zambia, however please do not feel obligated to bring any items! We are looking for the following at present:
For the volunteer house
  DVD's
  Books – wildlife & novels
  Cards & games
For the projects
Old clothing that you no longer need that can be given to a local orphanage
Toys & games for the kids
Sports equipment (such as tennis balls and baseball bats)
Pens & pencils, glue, chalk, rulers, compasses, art club supplies.
  Text books for all ages
  A4 exercise books
  Educational posters for the walls
  Trowels & garden forks
  Paintbrushes & rollers
  Plastering trowel
  Large letter & number stencils
  Children’s novels
Medical Equipment – The Medical Project is always in need of Blood Pressure Cuffs and Alcohol Swabs.
