The next day we check into the hostel we wanted to stay in last night (a much cheaper option) and then spend the day wandering around the local area and generally not doing a lot
! There are lots of Chinese New Year displays happening - including a dragon dance going accross a busy main road! The next day we go to Singapore zoo, which when we get there is free for the day which is great! The zoo's really cool, most of the animals have huge enclosures, the orangatans have a whole network of trees going across walkways above your heads. We spend the whole day wandering around the zoo before catching the train back to the city. We have another day not doing alot apart from spending money and getting used to being in a more westernised country again! We then go to the Singapore History Museum. It's definitely the best museum we've been to yet, you get given a head set which tells you all about Singapore depending on what section you are in of the museum, the only problem was that it went on forever and by the end I was rather fed up but it was a really good museum, you just needed to spend a few days there!
The next day we pack our bags and fly to Australia!
Days spent in Singapore = 5. Amount spent £83.
Arriving in Singapore at 8 in the evening and a day early we have nowhere to stay so catch the metro to China town where the lonely planet says all the backpacker accomodation is, only to find it was all demolished 5 years ago! We get a taxi to Little India where it's all been relocated to and then spend the next 3 hours wandering around hostels trying to find somewhere with a bed. We found the place we originally wanted to stay but unfortunately they only had one bed left and no amount of begging would make them let us share the bed or even sleep on the floor! Eventually we pay out a fortune for a room but at least we have somewhere to sleep and after a healthy MacDonalds dinner we collapse on our bed. Note to self - always book ahead if travelling around Chinese New Year!
