In the morning we get a taxi to the bus station and get a bus to Lijiang - the rest of our old Intrepid group also get on the same bus! We arrive in Kunming at 7.30pm - 2 hours later than planned after our bus broke down twice on the way there. We ring the guesthouse, Mama Naxis, that we have the number for and after some confusion as to where abouts we were in Lijiang and having to pass the phone over to a Chinese person tp explain, someone comes to pick us up from the bus station. We are driven out and away from the city and wonder where we are being taken to we are brought to some dark semi-cobbled alley ways and arrive at the guesthouse. Mama Naxis is really nice but slightly manic in old town Lijiang. We get taken straight to dinner which is a huge bowl of rice then head straight to bed.

In the morning we get told to go to breakfast  which is lovely bannana and honey pancakes (pancakey pancakey bannanary bannanary), we then head into Lijiang to investigate the old city. We go past small shops selling a variety of diiferent chinese goods and we bump into two of the members of the Intrepid group and we walk with them for a while trying to find a way to get into the Pagoda. We eventually find the main square but not the entrance to the pagoda but stop to watch some of the Naxi women performing traditional dances. We then wander down some of the streets before finding our way to the Black Dragon Pool. This is a beautiful clean blue pool which reflects the snow capped mountains behind it with traditional chinese buildings dottedaround the edge of the pool. We spend ages walking around the pool, getting stared at by the chinese again, but it's really relaxing. Whilst there we bump into a few others from the intrepid group which was nice and quite funny.

We then walk back into the town to try and find the way to the Pagoda we were looking for before and on our way we meet our first Chinese streaker - and quickly walk on. We find our way up to the Pagoda relatively easily and wonder why we struggled so much before hand. The views from the Pagoda are amazing - you can see over the whole of the city and it's really interesting to see both the old and the new city together as well as the mountains in the background. I'm hoping that my cold clears up a little more before tomorrow when we're meant to be attempting Tiger leaping Gorge - as I struggled up the steps to the Pagoda it's a little worrying!  We head back down into the old city and bump into Liss, Rene and Amy and go to lunch with them and have delicious fried goats cheese. We walk around the old town with them for a bit and suprisingly find the way back to the guest house we're staying in - we'd gone a very roundabout route to the main square in the morning! After a quick rest at Mama Naxis we walk back into town for dinner which consists of traditional Naxi bread, Baba, one savory and one sweet, mine wasn't cooked properly but the bit I had of Livs was good. I love Lijiang, it has a lovely feel to it with the little shops and side streets and I am looking forward to coming back after we have been to Tiger Leaping Gorge. We go back to the guesthouse and pack our bags ready for our trek to Tiger Leaping Gorge tomorrow.
