After visiting the Montgomery downtown, we farewelled Sarah and drove to Athens, north east of Atlanta, Georgia to stay with Barbara's cousin, Terry Centner, his wife, Mary Ann and children Ann and John.

Terry greeted us with wine on their deck looking at the forest that backs their woodland property. He drove us into town to have a chicken dinner at their Presbyterian Church. Supper is provided weekly as part of their youth activities. Afterwards Terry drove us around Athens, a beautiful older Georgia City with a major Georgia University campus. We saw large old plantation homes, the downtown and the university campus (35,000 students).

Thursday morning, January 12, we enjoyed a light breakfast with Terry and his family and drove 2.5 hours to Roswell, north of Atlanta, to visit with Barbara's nephew, Ben (younger son of sister Donna), his wife Leigh and daughter Chloe in their apartment at a privately run townhouse complex for mentally disadvantaged people where they both work and live. This is a new style of development, which has won awards and got the Georgia State Government interested. From our brief visit it offers the residents dignity, a real and decent home, with staff supporting them in living in their rented accommodation and finding and keeping jobs. We then moved on to a delicious breakfast in downtown Roswell, said farewell to drive on to Franklin, Tennessee.
