Monument Valley is in the very south of Utah - massive buttes and mesas rise up from the desert. The monuments have been used as backdrops in many movies, especially Westerns. We checked it out at sunset then again the next morning when we put the jeep into 4 wheel drive for a bumpy drive around a 28 km track so we could see the 'buttes' up close. The area is part of the Navajol Indian reservation - with locals selling jewelry and crafts along the track.
Lauren here: I bought a lovely purple and red locally made bracelet from a man that also made wood burnings and spears!

Monument Valley was pretty windy on the viewing platform but it had a great view at sunset.
The off-road track was bumpy and dusty but very fun!
But it was a bummer that we only saw the common ravens though.
I was hoping to see a few rattlesnakes or some lizards but we didn't.
The Monuments were huge! It looked like they hadn't been formed by erosion but the sign said they were! FUN FACT: Lots of movies were filmed in Monument Valley!!
