After a little sleep in we were greeted with croissants and coffee for breakfast with Yoann and Nelly. Yoann had got up earlier and been to the local shops to purchase the croissants. We asked for plates to eat them from but then realised we should have been eating them the French way by dipping them into our coffee. Perhaps we will  try this tomorrow.
After breakfast we set of with Yoann as our driver, guide and translater to the old city of Vitre.
Vitre is a medieval walled town dating back to the 11 Century.  It has all the trappings of similar old French towns that we have seen in our travels.  However this one differed by having a town administrative office in the Hotel de Ville where we became the informal guests at a wedding.
We wandered the old streets with the timbered houses and visited the local Saturday produce market. We tasted some great cheese and even found a fish variety called 'Colin'.
With nearby church bells ringing and a man playing the bagpipes it gave us a wonderful experience. After a quick visit to a local supermarket (where Yoann showed us so many varieties and brands of yoghurt! ) we headed off to Carole's parents farm in the little village of Vergeal.
Here we met Mathilde and Joseph and Carol's brother Samuel and dog Belle. Col and Sam got on extremely well as he was a cabinet maker and restorer. We walked around the farm (50 hectare) where they have dairy cows, beef cattle and pigs. They also grow wheat for animal feed and have a huge vegetable garden for their own needs. We were then treated to the most amazing 5 course lunch with produce from the farm. Joseph then entertained us by playing the button accordion. What a truly wonderful experience this was and we thank them very much for their hospitality.
Carole and Yoann then took us to the major city of Brittany, Rennes, which is famous for its car manufacturing - Peugot and Citroen. We parked the car about 10kms outside the city and caught the metro. It is a driverless train and a very efficient way of transporting many people into the city. We wandered the busy streets and walked through the beautiful central gardens for a couple of hours before returning to Nelly's for a quick shower and change of clothes and heading out for more food - dinner in Vitre meeting up with Sam and his friend Sarah. A most enjoyable evening was had with lots of laughter and beautiful food once again. Sarah and Sam had also visited Australia 2 years ago so had many stories to share.
Home at midnight after another amazing day of wonderful experiences in France.
PS Thank you to Nelly, Yoann's mother, for doing our washing today while we were out and then ironing it! Much appreciated.
