Where I stayed
in car near the water front
After this we drove to Saitobaru where they had a Burial Mounds Park. It is an area of several square km of fields and forest with over 300 mounds dotted around. Yes they are just big piles of dirt with gras grown over them but they are from 300 to 600 AD which makes a difference. No really it was actually impressive. The musueum was unfortunately closed so we just had lunch and moved on.
On our way to Takachiho it started pissing down with rain. Oh well, we are here to see something so never the less we went for the 1km walk along the gorge. It was very beautiful and it must be absolutley magnificant when the sun is shining.
You know what amazes me, how many Japanese women wear high heel shoes on a treck. I admit it was not a proper hiking treck, never the less sturdy shoes are an advantage, especially in the rain on slipery rocks. Well, I guess I am just don't have enough fashion sense!!
Drove to Usuki where we were too late to see the Buddha images carved in stone as the temple thing was already closed, what to do...... Find a sake bar drink a bottle of sochu. The lady kept on bringing us wonderful food that she recommended (which we paid for of course) and I made a little fan out of paper which she was impressed by and put it on her shelf with some figurines - I wonder if it is still there. In return one of the other patrons made a crane and gave it to me as a present. Isn't it wonderful how communication works?
We found a car park near the water front somewhere where we fell asleep rather quickly, I wonder if the alcohol had anything to do with it....
