Not too much to update right now, but Mauritius was so much fun. We were only there for two nights and it really felt like we just got there when it was time to leave. The boat was in port in Port Louis, which was a little waterfront city that reminded me of a less developed, smaller version of Cape Town. A lot of the scenery looked similar, with a city on the water and green hills and mountains in the background. About 4 or 5 days before we got to Mauritius we lined up a villa for 6 of us to rent for the two nights in a place called Flic en Flac. It was a small beach town where a bunch of SAS kids were renting villas. We kind of left it to the last minute and emailed this address we got, and ended up easily having the best situation out of anyone. The day before we got there we found out that our villa was being changed to a "beachfront house," but was still going to be within our budget of about $30 US per person per night. Our place was a four bedroom house right on the sand overlooking this little bay with a bunch of boats parked in it, and it had this backyard patio with a bunch of nice patio furniture and a grill. It was so nice, we lucked out so much. There was also a maid that lived in a place across the street that came and cleaned both mornings which was really nice.
So the first day there we got picked up by the ship midmorning and drove to Flic en Flac, about 30 minutes away. We went to the Hilton first where two of our good friends were staying and visited them there for a little. It was really nice, a lot like resorts in Hawaii. Then we went to the grocery store and stocked up on food and drink and then went to our place. We basically just hung there the whole day, the weather was nice but partially cloudy so it wasn't ideal beach weather. Having a barbeque in the back was really cool, we cooked for ourselves the whole time we were there. It was so satisfying to have some burgers and chicken off the grill instead of the ship food that seems to be getting worse and worse. Anyways at night we went out to a bar with a bunch of SAS kids and then went back to our place.
The second day we met up with these other 6 kids that had a villa nearby, hung on the beach, cooked burgers, played volleyball, and just chilled out. We kept saying the whole day that there really was nowhere else in the world that would be a better place to be than where we were, we are so lucky to be able to do stuff like this. The rest of the day and night were more of the same, it was a ton of fun but very relaxing at the same time. It would have been so nice to have four or five days there but I guess it is time to move on.
We had our Global Studies midterm right before Mauritius, it was okay but not great. Everyone thought it was really hard, it wasn’t that bad and we are smarter than most people on here so we should be fine. It was annoying because the professor specifically said that we didn’t need to worry about specific dates or numbers and there ended up being a lot of questions about that exact thing.
On to India next, I’m not sure how I feel about it. I am excited to see the country and especially the Taj Mahal, but I have heard from people that it is the worst of the places we go. People keep saying that if you thought Morocco and Ghana were run-down, just wait until what you see in India. I think pretty much anything that could happen is fair game. Like you always say Dad, if you can imagine it, somebody in the world is doing it, and sounds like chances are it’s in India. I have also heard that ¾ of the ship gets sick there from the food so that’s going to suck. Otherwise should be a great time!

Mauritius
Sounds great - and a bargain! I'm jealous....
Love, Mom
Hi
Sounds wonderful. I just came back from Vancouver and my friend Sharon is leaving for India on Nov. 30th for six weeks. In 2011 she is going for 4 months. Personally, I would starve to death over there.
Love, Grandma
