Where I stayed
Hey everybody,
So we cut short Bratislava to spend more time in beautiful Vienna. It turned out to be a brilliant decision. VIENNA IS AWESOME!!!!! This is the cleanest big city I have ever been in. The metro is easy to use and absolutely necessary because Vienna is huge. Almost all of the buildings are covered with a fresh coat of paint and the architechture is stunning. The only problem is that there is too much too look at. It is daunting because our travel guide book makes you stop and read at nearly every corner. Jeanne has statue/church/architechture overload and doesnīt care about the guidebook anymore. I am nearly there myself. At some point you have to just wander and enjoy.
We have also began buying most of what we eat at supermarkets and open-air markets. The open-air markets are like a Whole Foods times ten. It is easy to get fat and poor walking around. We splurge on one meal a day at a restaurant. The food here is great- lots of schnitzel and fresh but different salads. Scnitzel is like fried meat but lightly fried with some type of sauce. Yummmmm.
We arrived in Vienna on Wednesday around lunchtime and to our pleaseant surprise there was a laundromat across the street from our hotel. This was huge because there are no laundromats in Eastern Europe. Washing our clothes was like a celebration- sounds wierd but true. Later that day I was complaining that we havenīt been talking to enough people or getting into underground clubs. Luck would have it that we found the coolest music venue by our hotel. This place caters to the hip, young and artsy type. We listened to local musicians (some good and some bad). It was a lot of fun and we got to chat it up with the locals. The people in Vienna are very cultured and friendly.
Here is the best part. But first some background story... Before we went on this trip I bought some CDīs for us to listen to in the rental car. We abastained from listening to them until we got to Europe. One of the CDīs was Peter Bjorn and Jhon. The CD is excellent and we have been playing it over and over again the whole trip and singing it. Oddly enough, this same band played in Vienna last night and we went to see them. The venue was small- we had front row seats. THEY ROCKED THE HOUSE!!! It was so much fun and fitting. After the show we headed to a local discotech and danced away. Great day- one I will never forget.
Jeanne is probably waking up from her siesta now so I will head back to the room. We have both gotten into the habit of taking long mid-day naps. Hope all is well at home.

Austria
Hi Guys,
great to hear that you are having a good time around. Enjoy Vienna and the coming cities and I hope you now understand why I moved from Germany to Austria. Let me recommend you Kaiserschmarn (dough with raisins and plenty of sougar made in a pan) and Salzburger Nockerln once you are around in that area.
Keep rollin
Mike
