...at this point in the story it is worth mentioning that until now all the sleeper buses I've caught have been double berth on one side and single on the other. As it became apparent when I boarded the bus to Goa, this one was made up entirely of 1 & half berths... and I was informed that I would be sharing with someone...
The first part of the journey was fine (apart from crashing into anther bus as we left Mumbai, though we didn't stop or anything...) and I had the berth to myself. At around midnight however, I was joined by an Indian man, complete with dodgy mustache, who squeezed in next to me. For a while he just snored quite loudly, though at about maybe 5am it took a turn for the worse. I felt his body turn and an arm reach over me... He was attempting to spoon me! I solved this particular problem with a swift elbow to the midriff and within a short while he was gone again.
Arrived in Mapusa bus station early in the morning with several destinations underlined on my map, but with no notion which one I would go to. In the end, I followed the crowd and went to Anjuna, a party place so I'm told...
Checked into a quiet guesthouse away from the main strip & had the usual 3 hours sleep before exploring my new surroundings. Immediately bumped into a Swiss guy I'd met in Mumbai, met some new people, discovered bottles of Gin that cost 2 quid, replenished the supply of charas and set about a couple of days indulgence. Didn't get dressed up for halloween or make the lantern out of a water melon as intended, but celebrated none the less. Started with some live Jazz and finished at something o'clock with side trance.
Woke up the next day still drunk and caught the 2 buses to Panaji. Hangover kicked in on the second & I nearley vomited on the bus conductor. Only spent a day in Panaji & saw pretty much all there was to see. Got into an argument with a restaurant (for trying to make us pay for things we didn't order or eat), then went to a pub and tried the local moonshine (Fenny). It was revolting worse than the bottle of sherry (which had been sat open for 6 months) that me and Kev drank when we both returned from a different bout of travelling...).
Got a bus to Candolim in the morning, went to go see a fort (crap), walked along the beach and slept in some old woman's spare room.
The next day I caught a few buses and made my way to Palolem in a bid to satiate my hunger for beef...
