The local train to Ayutthaya is not as bad as I thought in 3rd class. Wooden benches, but spacious, clean and people are all civilized. It cost 15 Baht ($0.50) one way. 2nd class would have cost 20 or 30 Baht and 1st class 245 Baht. I wonder what the difference could be. Satin cushions, AC and massages? I'll never know. Not this time anyways.

In the three hours of daylight that remain of the day by the time I checked into my 100 year old guest house (http://bannkunpra.com), I rent a bike and manage over 150 pictures despite the lack of good light conditions. You’d think I had my fill of temples and can’t see any more. This city and its dozens (if not hundreds) of ruins manages to still excite me. Lucky me, gets to save a few bucks on entry fees as well. 'Why’ I ask the gate keeper at the first temple. "Today birthday my king" she sais. Well, happy birthday then! ;)

The weather is insanely hot and humid. Not even the rain showers and thunder storms bring much relief. Other than being grossly drenched in sweat, I meanwhile function well in this climate and don’t mind too much. Unheard of, that I even enjoy the lack of hot water showers more and more. Who would have thought! (Forgive the insider hint here. Some people will wonder in disbelief at this turn of comfort needs.)

Two days later, I am back in the train to Bangkok for one last night, before heading back to Chiang Mai, where I also have some undone things to do and sights to see. In those last few hours, I have my back fixed with one of the best massages had in SEA at www.healthland.com, live it up a little at a jazz and night club with one of the Couchsurfers I mentioned in my last entry and chill at the hostel waiting for my flight. Waiting, right……the thing with that flight was that I thought it leaves after 5pm. Should have checked to confirm that the day before. I didn’t. Not until 12.58pm the day of. Thing is that the flight didn’t depart after 5pm like I thought for some mysterious reason. It had left at 12.50pm. Doh! And duh! Such silliness, I can’t even stress about it, but only laugh at. So I book another flight for that evening. Thankfully they are not exorbitantly pricy here.
