So here I go, blog entry # 1 of hopefully many. What to write, what to write? This isn't truely the 1st stop of my globe-trotting adventure, but might as well use it as a test run, right?
I am currently in St. Augustine, Florida with my two high school girl friends Christine and Manu, Stine's hubby Tobi and daughter Anouk. The last time we gals all got together (not counting Stine's wedding in Sep 2006, Freiburg/Germany) was in February 2006 in NY. Time flies!
For those that don't know my ladyfriends, we spent 9 years at Hildagymnasium High School together. And apparently (so Manu reminded me), I even know Manu from primary school, which probably qualifies her as my oldest/longest friend at the 25+ year mark. Wow! Aren't we some old hags!? I daresay we are wiser for it after all ;) Stine lives in Hamburg right now and when she is done with mat leave will return to working at New Zealand Trade & Enterprise. Tobi works for an oil copmany and Manu lives the glamourous live of a journalist in NY. Except that it turned out to not be as glamourous as one might think. So she recently decided to take a break and join me on my world adventures. Which means her home office will be on the road. Hooray for me :)!
This is my first time in Florida and I am loving the climate, hot and humid. I am enjoying to not have to do anything, other than sleep, eat, read, chill, walk on the beach, chat about the old days and generally connect on a level you only can with people you have known well for that long. Lovely! Manu and I both arrived Saturday afternoon. Me minus my luggage, which got stuck in Miami. So I had a few hours of testing to survive without a selection of wardrobe.
On that note, after having had the time of my life being off all of August, I am now starting to have palpitations thinking about fitting 7ish months worth of all-climate clothing and shoes in one backpack, no heavier than 20 and a few kilograms. Oh boy! Besides that, which willl no doubt be my biggest challenge, I am super stoked to get going shortly. 12 days to take-off. Here is my current rough itinerary that surely will be changing along the way:
Barcelona - Toledo - Madrid - Mallorca - more TBD Spanish cities (Sevilla, Grenada,...???) - Morocco - Southern Italy (Or at least Rome) - the homeland - Turkey - Jordan - maybe Lebanon and other Middle Eastern Sstops - India - South East Asia (Thailand, Cambodia, Bali, Vietnam, Laos, Burma/Myanmar, something like that) - Australia - New Zealand. Then if the finances stretch this far, maybe some more South America.
Alrighty then, this much for my first entry. More adventurous ones to come I daresay ;). Hasta la vista!
