Hi everyone,
Wow, three weeks in Maldives already. The basic scoop - it's hot, hot, hot. However, we have airconditioning in our apartment - bonus! Life is relatively easy with a nice apartment with all the conveniences, stores nearby and beautiful beaches a ferry ride away. Male is crowded with lots of high buildings and narrow streets. It's difficult for the kids to do anything outside (unlike our beautiful Wakefield) so trips to the islands on the weekend, even for a day trip, is a necessity so they can run and play with some freedom. They are getting adventurous though and insisting on going to some local shops on their own. One has to watch carefully for the constant motorbikes passing by. On the narrow streets, this can sometimes be a problem - especially when a car comes by and there is no room to pass! We spent last weekend at a resort which was really nice. The kids had total freedom all weekend and we did some wonderful snorkelling. We saw two very large sea turtles as well as hundreds of colourful fish. By the drop off (after the coral reef) Doug and Jesse saw 4 sharks. Jesse wanted to go out again - he was so excited - and another shark circled them (Yikes!!). He wasn't afraid and wanted to go out a third time, which we did. Doug claims a shark swam between him and I but it was a bit cloudy (we were on our way back into shore) so I didn't see it (luckily??!). Doug was sick during our time at the resort so we plan to make another trip to a different island in a couple of weeks. He is away now at a series of islands in the south doing some consulting on where they want to put their waste management facilities. I miss the freedom and space of being in the country but this is a taste of city living for sure. Well - off to explore a bit - mostly in the shops - but we will try the museum today also.

Great experience
You are so lucky to swim with shark there. It is my dream. Maybe you should attend PADI course so that you could dive in paradise maldives.
