As a precautionary measure we took Penny to the Samaritan Pacific Communities Hospital in Newport to have her cold checked out.
She's absolutely fine - she just has a cold. We just didn't want to gamble with such things.
Incredible healthcare service here. 40 minutes from entrance to parking lot and that included the Travel Insurance paperwork. Absolutely blown away but then I suppose you pay for it.
Wonderfully kind staff and medical people too.
We're doing laundry now - yay.
Our site has no wi-fi so I'll be uploading in the mornings at a local cafe.
Alright, let's sort this day out.
At 6:50am I awoke to news that the cassette toilet in our trailer was full and would no longer 'flush'. This meant that urine was now slowly seeping out of the bowl and into the trailer. Awesome.
I tended to this with towels and a bleach bottle and began my day early by pouring out the toilet's contents into the sewage receptacle. I'm so pleased that we don't number 2 in the cassette toilet.
When the day began proper we popped down the trailer and headed off to Yachats for our real beach camping adventure. We had predicted a 2 hour - 3 at the most - jaunt down the coast
We stopped in Lincoln City and had a delicious lunch at Kyllo's. I ordered the grilled fish tacos (halibut) and Mel ordered the stuffed halibut. It was right up there with the lunch from yesterday. Top notch in every respect. And what a view! It's on stilts right there on the beachfront.
Lincoln City brought back a lot of memories for me.
From there we drove to Newport and shopped at the local Wal-mart. Supplies. Beer.
We arrived at our new campsite, Beachside Recreation Site at 4:15pm. 5 hours after we left Cannon Beach.
But was it ever worth it. Our site is no more than 30 seconds from the beach. Thank you Mel for booking 9 months in advance.
Henry's mind was officially blown by this when I showed him later.
The whole experience was forestalled by our concerns about Penny's cold. Health is not something we take for granted and so one phone call to our insurance company later, we were back to Newport to take her into Emergency.
And thankfully she's fine. Just a little under the weather.
It's a cold that Henry had the first week of the trip.
We stuck around in Newport and did some laundry, ate a low-brow dinner, and headed back to the campsite.
It was 10:00pm by the time we got the kids down and started to think about relaxing.
I'm still at work, of course, sampling a product from the Pelican Pub & Brewery (Pacific City) - Kiwanda Cream Ale (alcohol content undisclosed - there better be some!).
It's tasty and a nice departure from hops and lager. This would be a bloat beer in large quantities.
Hopefully this will be up tomorrow.
