Finally I made it to some sand and sea and away from the hustle and bustle of Bangkok. I was planning to do-it-myself travel down to Koh Chang but my guesthouse did a transfer for the same price as the public bus and I got picked up from my guesthouse and it included the ferry so I went with that instead. The transfer was pretty long and after leaving Bangkok at 9am the ferry didnt land at Koh Chang until 4.30pm. From here we had to get a shared taxi down to Lonely beach where I had booked to stay at the sunflower bungalows for the first night. On the ferry trip I got speaking to a lovely couple, Patty and Jim who had been travelling for the last eight months after getting married in Samoa - nice!! We had all decided on Lonely beach resort so they decided to come to the sunflower with me and see if they could stay there too. Unfortunately it was full but we agreed to meet up the next day for drinks and I said I would pass down my snowboard mag to Jim. That night I just had a wander around the resort and found somewhere for dinner. During dinner I got talking to another nice couple (Kristen and Dillon from Canada) and we spent the rest of the evening chatting and having some Chang beers before I reminded them it was mothers day the next day so we headed to the internet to email our mums! I woke up the following morning expecting to hear the sea (my bungalow is a stones throw away from the sea) but instead heard the rain - nooooo!!!! Oh well I decded I might as well go back to bed for another hour instead. I eventually got up and had some breakfast at the main lounge bit of the bugalows - very cool with lots of cushions and hammocks - and during breakfast the sun came out- horrah!!! So off I sauntered down to the beach....beautiful white sand, palm trees and clear blue, warm sea - it really is heaven. It has taken a little while to relax after all the travelling and bustle of Bangkok. When I first arrived here I thought - oh oh this is going to be a bit boring - but now I am getting into it I love it! After the beach I met up with Patty and Jim for drinks and to watch the liverpool match and sauntered back to my bungalow - it really is a chilled out life! This morning I woke up and as it wasnt raining I decided to go on a boat trip and do some snorkelling. I had to get up early - pick up at 845am - and joined a shared taxi with the others going on the trip. There were actually quite a few Thai people on the trip but I got talking to some Aussie and SA guys. Turned out the aussie guy was a preacher who had been travelling for the last 8 years spreading the word. The SA guy was really into it so I just smiled and picked up my book!!! The trip was cool and we saw lots of fish (a few nemos) whilst snorkelling around 3 or 4 of the small islands off Koh Chang (including Koh Rang and Koh Wai). Only problem was I totally managed to fry my back and backs of my legs whilst in the water - my sunscreen is obviously not very waterproof! So now I feel like I am cooking! I was going to go to the beach tomorrow but I may just spend the day in the shade instead. Oh well thats enough updating from me - its dinner time...mmmm shall I go for Pad thai or curry - hooooge decision to make!
