My first full day in NY is nearly over and all I can say is that I am unimpressed with the place- don't believe the hype. After being in New Zealand and Australia where people are so friendly these guys have to be the most rude people on the planet. Seriously.
Started off the day by heading to get a camera as the old one got sand in the lens. Picked one up, then headed to Times Square, after getting lost a couple of times (or should I say taking the unscenic route?!) Then headed up to Soho to look at some cool and trendy shops, and ended up on a damn mission trying to find the right subway station.
Then decided to have a squiz at Bloomies - which was ok, but really expensive and actually not as impressive as I'd expected. Had a bit of a mare on the subway back - ended up on the line going to Queens instead of downtown....
Then got on the right line, but the train turned into an express and only decided to stop at 125th st, and I wanted 103th....... Which meant a walk through 'scenic' Harlem. Rough I tell you, rough. And this was the nice end, god only knows what the rest of it is like. Decided to head out in the evening, and went to Greenwich for a quick wander - this area seems nice actually: and the people looked a little more civilised than I'd seen earlier.
At the end of the day, my head hurts from all the noise (damn car horns, these people are so rude and impatient), I have my version of jet lag: which is feeling like I'm still on the plane (in the way of the motion), and I'm suffering from severly dry skin. Yes, yes, I know I'm a whinger, but I don't like NY at the moment. Maybe it'll grow on me........
