I arrived in New York after a marathon 13 and a half hour flight from Sydney to LA, then spent about 2 hours in queues just to get through customs to get onto my flight to New York. Luckily the flight was quite empty so I could spread out a little and attempt to get some kip......
So I arrived in New York JFK a little worse for wear. I had my hostel booked but no transport, so the first job was to get that sorted - easy enough, I just went to the information desk and booked on a shuttle bus. This bus turned out to be such a nightmare - there were 8 of us in there, all going to different places. The shuttle driver didn't seem to have a clue where he was going - he tried to drop a backpacker off in the middle of Harlem to a hostel that didn't even exist, then kept getting onto the wrong roads and did heaps of well dodgy manouveres. Eventually, 2 hours after we had left the airport, I arrived at my hostel - Jazz on the Park. It's no where near as good as it's internet site suggests, but the area it's in seems ok, no drug pushers or pimps.
After a little walk around the 'hood I thought it was time for some much needed kip, so I settled into the 4 bed dorm that I had all to myself. Nice.
