Well I have left behind bustling Auckland now and headed off to meet up with Anna-Marie and Paul again. I picked them up from the airport on the 25th Nov - they got a great hello from New Zealand as it just started to rain as soon as they got off from the plane! Plus we got stuck in loads of traffic on the way back into Auckland CBD...
I met them later in the evening and we went out for a nice meal and some drinks - one of the best meals I'd had in a long time and I didn't even have to pay for it - nice one! Paul decided to opt for the ostrich steak, and didn't realise that the restaurant was a stone grill place, where basically your meat comes out raw on a heated stone block and you have to cook it yourself - when it came out raw he thought that was just how ostrich was served: the look on his face was hilarious!! I made the mistake of trying to drink as fast as Paul later on, which unsurprisingly ended up in me getting absolutely slaughtered!
On the Sunday (27th) there was a christmas parade on through Auckland. The hostel I was staying in was just off Queen St (the main street through the CBD) and the parade went along the street, waking me up at about 1pm... It was so bizarre some of the sights on the parade - they had bananas in pyjamas, clowns on tiny mopeds, bagpipe players and a variety of other people dressed up in things that had nothing at all to do with Christmas. This country is odd, I tell you...
The journey from Auckland to Taupo was a nice one at only 4 hours, and I managed to get there for lunch time. Anna-Marie and Paul had already been on the Huka jet and tried to do a sky dive but were stopped by the bad weather. So when I got there we just had a look around the shops and then went to the Honey Hive to test some honey. Well tasty, but expensive!
