Well the bus trip up to here was fantastic, the views were amazing, and I felt like I was finally in New Zealand. I got to Paihia on a Thursday night and by the Friday morning I had found myself a job working in a hostel for a couple of hours a day to pay for my accommodation. The hostel is a three minute walk from the beach, so as you can imagine I've spent a lot of time there already, and am starting to get a nice tan!! I did look for another job to get some money in, but it was all waitressing stuff and as I'm not going to be staying round here that long, it just wasn't worth it.

I've not really done much since being here - it's a proper holiday destination so I have just been relaxing on the beach during the day, and then in the evening playing cards, going to the local bars - and winning loads of stuff!! We did karaoke the other night and won a free scuba dive which was nice; actually amazing considering we sang the theme from Ghostbusters, and badly too!! All good fun though, especially since in that particular bar they do raffle draws every night and most nights we are there we win! Plus that bar usually has beers for $1 on happy hour so it's good for my wallet.
Last week we went on a 5km walk to a waterfall, we walked really quickly to get there, and when we did it was a bit of a let down - apparently it is the walk which is the main attraction as it is through dense New Zealand woodland in one of there national parks, which is also the habitat of the kiwi bird. So I'm probably gonna do that again but go a little slower this time!
Today I'm going out on a really fast boat round the Bay, should be good as the weather is lovely today, nice and sunny (again)
I'm probably gonna stay here for another week, and then move down to Hawkes Bay to do some fruit picking to get some money together... I reckon it'll be hard work, but it's all an experience, and as I really like working outside I should be ok.
