Finally, in New Zealand!!! Well eventually after a really long queue in immigration, and me feeling really nervous that they were going to ask me to show proof my funds - which I didn't actually have! Thankfully I wasn't, just told to have a nice trip.

They're really picky here in New Zealand about people bringing things in that shouldn't be here; no not crap tv and music from the UK, but things like plants and bugs..... I had my bags scanned, was just about to stroll through as I knew I didn't have any of these, when I was practically grabbed by a butch woman and asked to explain why there was a pear in my bag! What the....!!!! Obviously there was no pear in there (why the hell would there be?!) I was made to search through my rucksack which was packed exceedingly tightly, so it was no mean feat trying to unpack and then repack a load of the stuff from it... In the end after about 10 minutes of this they decided that it wasn't really a pear, and let me go through.
Arriving in Auckland was really strange - I was finally in New Zealand!! It wasn't really what I had expected and I wasn't sure if I liked it. The hostel I was staying in gave me and 3 girls I had met along the way a really small dorm room with no windows - just like a prison as you can imagine.... Didn't realise that the hostel was one of the biggest ones in New Zealand and as such really impersonal. Auckland was a lot bigger than I had expected, and really busy, full of business people rushing around and not at all what I wanted to be in New Zealand for, so planned to hop it sharpish; decided on heading north to get some sun and sea, so set off a few days later to Northland.
