Phew, another scorcher today!!! I ate a tasty cheese panini for brekkie and then headed off slowly into the city. My calves were killing me from the 9 hours of walking and standing I did yesterday so the pace today today was gonna have to be quick sedate..... (Just something that made me chuckle - I passed a group of Japanese tourists with the tour guide wearing a t-shirt stating the name of the travel company: New Sense travel, ha, well it made me laugh anyway).
On the agenda today was a chill out in Giardino di Boboli as I didn't fancy the prospect of going back into the city, and I liked the idea of taking a mosey through some Italian plants. It was defo a good choice, I found a sweet spot near a big pond with fountains, and relaxed on a cool stone bench in the shade, lovely stuff. One of the special exhibitions on was a recreated Pompei garden, but it was a bit rubbish really, just looked like a row of weeds. I sat in the sun and scoffed my lunch then headed indoors to the Garden exhibition - basically detailing Babylon through to Roman gardens, and it was surprisingly quite interesting.
After chilling out in the gardens for the best part of the day, I headed slowly back up to the campsite, stopping to say hello to a lovely Italian cat half way up the million stairs. God knows how many steps I've climbed in the last few days, I wish I'd gone on the ruddy stair master at the gym to get in some training.
Ok, so here are my impressions of Firenze: lots of nice architecture but very touristy, the Boboli gardens are lovely but a bit pricey at €9, and you can't sit on the grass... I'm defo glad I went into the Ufizi gallery, but wish I had queued for the cathedral.... also, I don't know why I had it in mind that there would be more domes in the city, I could only see 2. I don't think I would really go back to Firenze, not for 3 nights anyways. I could probably have stayed for 2 nights and been happy with that. There, my 2 cents worth.
