We'd foolishly kind of forgotten it was Sunday today, so public transport was a bit of a bitch, we had to wait for ages to get on a bus from the campsite, and then it was a free-for-all when it finally arrived, we were crushed in like sardines.  The bus almost smelt as bad as sardines too with all the combined BO smells, thankfully this time I didn't have some guys sweaty armpit in my face.  We were off back to the Colosseum and Palatine Hill, so after we'd navigated our way through the crowded metro, we joined the queue outside the Colosseum, and patiently waited for about an hour to get in, with people trying to push in all over the show, these continental Europeans just don't seem to know how to queue properly, my elbows had to come into use more than one time to stop the ruddy people pushing in.  I was really looking forward to seeing the inside of the place, having read about what it would have been like in its heyday, with underground cages for the animals that would get released and seating for 50,000 people.  So when we got inside, I realised that I would have to use my imagination a lot, it has not been well preserved sadly.  I think I will watch Gladiator again when I get home, just to get the feeling of what it would have been like!
We didn't spend too long at Palatine Hill as people had got hungry, but did manage to check out some awesome views over the Colosseum.  A little tip for you: your ticket for the Colosseum also gives you entry to the Palatine Hill, so buy the ticket at the Palatine Hill and walk straight past the queue at the Colosseum!  A great idea, much better than queuing!
It was Kathryn's birthday today, and as it was Sunday we thought it would be too difficult to stay out late in the city centre and catch a bus home, so we opted for getting BBQ tools together and doing that instead.  I wasn't convinced by the idea so bought some rice dish and a salad bowl instead.  The BBQ seemed to light ok, and Kathryn got the steak that she wanted, although the baked potatoes were a disaster....  My rice thing was rank, and the salad thing I bought had to be the driest salad ever, for some reason I thought it came with a sachet of dressing, no such luck....  We had fun anyway, drinking beers and watching the sun set, fabbo.
I knew that tomorrow would be a tiring day, having a few hours to hang around Rome before the train for Ancona, and the others had to get up early for their flight, so we didn't have a really late one.
(More piccies to come later)
