Well, the day could have started better....  I missed my train to the airport by about 30 seconds: I was close enough to hear it pulling away from the station, dammit.  But it gave me a chance to wake up slightly more than I was.  Eventually I made it to Lpool airport and was faced with a massive queue for the strutting flight.  Ah well....  The rest of the morning passed uneventfully, apart from the free for all that was the solitary luggage carousel at Pisa airport - I had to watch my bag go past twice before I got anywhere near to picking it up.
Train from the airport into Pisa was great, only €1.10 and took about 5 mins, which unfortunately was also enough time for me to start getting seriously sweaty.  I dropped my bag off and had a chance to practice my awful Italian, never mind, at least I try.  Then it was into Pisa and onto 'the most famous tower in the world'.  I took the 'scenic' route passing down some side streets, even saw some kittens in a cage being petted in the middle of the street like they were some attraction...bizarre.  Anyway, I was quite impressed by the tower, and also how clean it is, considering it's so old.  They obviously take good care of it.  The other attractions in the piazza were pretty too, but there were heaps of tourists so I didn't stick around too long.
The train to Firenze passed through some great scenery, making a nice change to my usual train ride through the dubious sites Liverpool has to offer.  I forgot to validate my train ticket though, so was bricking it through almost the whole journey, being the idiot that I am.  After getting into the station I eventually found the bus stop to get to my campsite that would be home for the next 3 days, after walking around in circles and looking like a tool for about 5 minutes.  Oh, and another chance to try out my dire Italian: this time I asked a woman in the shop if she understood English, which she did so I bought a bus ticket.  Yay.  As per usual, some weirdo sat next to me on the bus, I swear he was just wearing a shirt - no shorts or trousers, and to make things worse he had bad BO and kept wafting his shirt.  Sicko.... eventually the bus pulled in piazzale michelangelo, which apparently was were I was supposed to get off..... I just followed 2 other people with rucksacks and made it to the campsite.  Tent seemed ok, and even had laminate flooring, the world of tents has obviously moved on since my Keycamp days.  The other 2 girls I was sharing with weren't in so I took the opportunity to let my bag explode and get changed, as it was seriously hot.
I spent the rest of the afternoon and evening resting my aching feet and admiring the view over Firenze, watching the sun set from the piazzole.  It had been a busy day, but I was looking forward to checking out the sights and what Firenze had to offer....

Tower?
La Torre di Pisa more famous than La Torre di Blackpool? You're so naïve. Keep up the blogging, but save some strength for Prauge. You'll provide slightly less entertainment for me if you're dead.
