To finish the journal - moving-in day went very smoothly, the movers brought two vans to the storage unit and discovered that they only needed one, a happy reversal of the situation on leaving Molesey! We had the keys by 11am and were opening our new front door by 3pm - or rather, leaning hard on it, one of the first jobs involved a spot of planing and filing! Well worth all the pre-move stress and planning, even with 'no chain' and no indication of problems you still don't quite believe it until you have the keys.

We've still got a few possessions to collect from a 200-mile radius - despite two major culls it is amazing how much stuff we have, and how many things we still need!

We are so very pleased with this place which ticks all the boxes, and I think has the feeling of the best NZ hostels; without the lack of local transport or facilities, and without the crowd of smokers outside... Our neighbours are very helpful and friendly, and a gentle 20 minute walk up and down through the village passes some great views and three sets of alpacas. A minor diversion takes you on to lovely hills.

Still can't quite believe we can make plans for next year and beyond, and we took great pleasure in getting rid of all the packing materials, no more need to keep boxes! As I write the first lot of decoration is under way; although most of the house is from the 1980s there are a couple of walls left over from the original 1700s building so we are learning about breathable paint and how to acquire it without paying prices more suitable for gold-plating.

and so for now the journey, if not the adventure, is over. Although we're not ruling out an escape in the depths of winter... :-)
