Our adventures today take place in the Bavarian National Forest which borders the Czech Republic. We head out in the morning to the National Park in the north end of the forest. Our travels through the countryside takes us up and down wooded mountains and through some quaint villages and towns. We find the car park and hike up to the wilderness center. It's all uphill through the forest in the lush greenery and fresh air. The path is littered with slugs... big long brown slugs that look like snails without a shell. We also find a poor little dead mole lying on it's back. Along the hike we pass by wildlife enclosures that are supposed to house some lynx and wolves but these elusive animals are no where to be seen. They are native to this forest and have probably figured out when to sleep to avoid the prying eyes of humans like us.
At the center, we watch a 3-D film that shows 20 minutes of beautiful scenery that gives us an overview of the whole forest. Then the kids check out a few displays before heading to the indoor forest playground for a little while. After some play time and a snack we head out to hike to the Stone Age cave. Here we also see some wild horses before we hike back to our car.
We head towards Veichtach which is a small town nearby. Here we head to the Krystalmuseum so Daniel can check out their rock collection. We do some shopping and get some food for lunch...pretzels, ice cream and apple streudel serves nicely as a yummy lunch today.
On the way back to our German home, we stop off for some shopping. The first store we find is one Eve wants to come back to for some serious home furnishing shopping...she even wrote down the name of the store and the town where it is located. The store was huge with 4 floors filled with awesome furniture and home goods. Then it was off to another store to find a few more items we are looking for plus some chicken for dinner tonight. Then we head back to our resort to do some relaxing, playing and laundry before dinner.
