Up late for obvious reasons. Sarah stayed in bed whilst I went down for an average breakfast. This is such a pretty hotel - a typical French coaching inn with a lovely courtyard but not sure why it's called L'Auberge!!! I've got quite friendly with the bloke on reception by now and we are chatting about Carmel and it's illustrious celebrity connections when he suggests dining at Clint Eastwood's tonight. Well I thought that's not a bad idea and I've seen quite a few of his films so we would have lots to chat about. Anyway I leave it for him to fix it up and Sarah and I set off for the days sightseeing.
We drive south through fantastic coastal scenery of Carmel highlands to Point Lobos Reserve and State Park. We drive around a bit and hike a few trails (nothing too strenuous) but all so beautiful and different to what we've experienced so far.

Getting a bit excited now about eating with Clint Eastwood later but also a bit apprehensive because for some inexplicable reason Sarah continues to mention that we are dining later with John Wayne!!! The very fact that John Wayne has been dead for a number of years doesn't seem to deter her. Anyway I hope she doesn't cock up later tonight and call Clint John cos that would be very embarrassing!

Get back to Carmel and have a few Bloody Mary's at a nice little bar then back to hotel to wash and brush up for dinner tonight. Finally we are ready and the hotel take us to Mission Ranch in their courtesy limo. It's only 5 or 6 minutes down the road but we want to make an impression. Arrive at the ranch which is very nice, sheep in the fields, views of Carmel bay and lots of outbuildings. Also, though there's a bloody great big car park. I thought he must have a lot if friends' but then he would, wouldn't he? Anyway our driver points to the door and off we go. We are greeted by a very nice woman who we assume is Mrs Eastwood and we are shown into a great big room which strangely has loads of tables in and lots of people already eating at them!!! The Eastwoods really must have a lot of friends. Anyway to cut a long story short Clint never showed up and when we had finished our meal we were made to pay for it. Maybe it's a California thing but I thought it a bit rude he didn't even get in touch and apologise. Suffice to say we will be avoiding Clint's films in future - we'll see who loses out in this battle!! OR maybe Sarah was right in the first place and we were supposed to be dining with John Wayne???

In disgust we walk back to L'Auberge and to bed.
