Had a lovely cooked breakfast provided by the farm then went to watch the pigs, hens, cow and calf being fed with Kalli the dog. We booked out of the B&B and set off along highway 6. We took a detour on Highway 63 to St Arnaud to the source of the Buller river off Lake Proiti. We parked by a landing stage but did not notice at first that there were 6 large eels hiding under the stage, simply amazing. We then drove a short way around the lake and over a bridge above the source of the river a very worthwhile detour. This river is amazing as we saw it at its mouth in Westport and its source 125 km upstream with a majestic strength and power, meandering through so many valleys and gorges.
We then cut across country towards Nelson and at Kotatu we joined the road to Motueka. 4 km along the road we went to the Hidden gallery and cafe where we had some coffee and cake and viewed lots of artistic creations. We arrived at our motel, booked in unpacked and went shopping. We had an evening meal in Hot Mommas restaurant.
