We then went to Waipapa point and lighthouse and saw two huge sea lions on the shore. We returned home via highway 92 for steak meal. The sky cleared later and with the lights out we got a clear view of the stars, no milky way this time.
Late start, went to museum and information centre and bought postcards and stamps. Drove off to visit Curio Bay, On arrival we saw a Yellow Eyed Penguin going to feed its young, Dave was disappointed not to get a photo. The petrified forest on the beach was just as Dave remembered. The sea was rough, we explored the area and Laura liked it too. On our way back, what a surprise, the penguin reappears from the scrub land and walks back down the beach to the sea. Dave got his shot after all. We left Curio Bay drove onto unmade up road, which was bumpy and dusty. We went to Slope Point the most southerly point in the South Island. The wind was so strong Laura photographed Dave leaning back into the wind. The spray from the sea from several 100 feet below blew onto us.
